Installation

Overview

Before use the curator tool, user should install Java software first.

Requirement

The curator tool runs on Java virtual machine with version 5.0 or higher, which can run on cross platform, including Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, Apple Mac OSX and other Unix like platform.

For Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux and Sun Solaris, users can download Java software from http://www.java.com/. The version of Java software is 5.0, which can support the curator tool smoothly.

The Java software is installed in Apple Mac OSX by default. Users should make sure the version is 5.0 or higher. Otherwise, users can run OSX update program to get the latest version of Java software.

For other platforms, users should check the vendor's web page to get the latest version of Java software.

Installation

After the Java software is installed, users can go to the curator tools and click the link Curator Tool Web Start. A dialog will be displayed to check the version of curator tool in user machine and download the component of the curator tool if necessary. For the first time user, it will ask user whether trusting the signed application distributed by us. Users need click "start" button to run the curator tool. Then another dialog will pop up to ask user whether creating shortcut on desktop. Users can choose any options.

Log in

Finally, a splash screen will be displayed to let users log in the database. There are several types of users. Guests can only browse the data but not edit them. Normal users currently have same privilege as guests except they have an account. Expert users can edit the data, e.g., create a new pathway, modify interactions in pathways.

First time user can log in as guest and then create a new account by themselves (menu: system > register). Currently we only let specified users to edit the database.
